Safeguarding children and families
Please call us on 01733 330630 or pop into the nursery anytime If you have any concerns about your child or a child in our setting
At Little Tigers Day Nursery we are committed to help protect children and support families in the care of their children. We work alongside the Peterborough and Cambridgeshire Safeguarding Partnership board.
What is safeguarding?
Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.
Safeguarding means:
- protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
- preventing harm to children’s health or development
- ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
- taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes.
Child protection is part of the safeguarding process. It focuses on protecting individual children identified as suffering or likely to suffer significant harm. This includes child protection procedures which detail how to respond to concerns about a child.
Early Help
We aim to work with families to ensure they get support to prevent any child becoming at risk of significant harm. Sometime this can be through an Early Help Programme to support the family and child. Please see details on the NSPCC website for more information about what will happen in this instance https://learning.nspcc.org.uk/safeguarding-child-protection/early-help-early-intervention
TAF
Team around the family (TAF) is where multiple organisations and professionals are involved to support a family and child. This will involve regular meetings together with the parents to provide support and put measures into place.
Concerns
If any member of our team has concerns about a child’s safety this will be reported to our Settings Safeguarding coordinators – Kerry our Setting Manager and Lead Safeguarding co ordinator and Lorraine our Assistant Setting Manager.
If a concern needs referral to the safeguarding board parents will be notified prior to making the referral.
Collections
At Little Tigers Day Nursery and Out of School Club our policy is to 100% ensure we know each and every child goes home with an authorised collector. This may mean sometimes if a member of staff is not 100% certain who the person is they will ask for identification. We do understand that this can be frustrating for parents when they have been attending for a while but we know all families would prefer to ensure their child goes home with an authorised collector and wait a few extra minutes to collect their child than put any child at risk of harm. We ask families to ensure their child’s forms are kept up to date with details and if someone else is collecting who does not normally collect we are informed when the child is dropped off or contacted by telephone/email to set up security details.
Visitors
All visitors to Little Tigers Day Nursery and Out of School Club are asked for identification to show who they are and will always be supervised by a member of our staff team during their visit. We do aim to keep visitors to a minimum during the day to avoid disruption to children’s time at the nursery/club.
